A 74-year-old cleric has been locked up after being accused of sexually @ssaulting his nine-year-old granddaughter.
Joseph Adeniran was brought before an Ikeja court on a charge of defilement.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged @tt@ck happened on June 18, 2026, at Adeniran’s home.
He allegedly assaulted the child in a way that caused her to bleed heavily.
A neighbour noticed bloodstains on the girl’s clothes and became concerned.
When the neighbour asked what had happened, the child allegedly told her that her grandfather had @ssaulted her, which is what caused the bleeding.
The neighbour reported the matter to police, leading to Adeniran’s arrest.
The Chief Magistrate ordered that Adeniran be held at Kirikiri Correctional Centre while the case is being reviewed.
He will remain in custody until September 24, when the court will receive legal advice from the government’s chief prosecutor.
The alleged offence violates Section 137 of Lagos State’s criminal law.
