According to Channels Television, Governor Uba Sani has taken a decisive step by signing the State Security Trust Fund into law. This development, aimed at bolstering the state’s security apparatus, was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Shehu.
The new legislation repeals the State Security Trust Fund Law No. 22 of 2018 and seeks to provide essential resources for the acquisition and deployment of security equipment, as well as human and financial resources necessary for the effective functioning of federal, state, and local government security agencies operating in Kaduna State.
Governor Sani emphasized that a portion of the security funds will be allocated towards the training and retraining of security personnel, ensuring their preparedness to tackle evolving security threats effectively.
Furthermore, the law establishes the State Security Trust Fund board of trustees, empowered to manage, purchase, and acquire property for the trust fund. The board will comprise representatives from the private sector, collaborating with other key stakeholders in the security sector to ensure efficient management and utilization of the fund.
Governor Sani revealed the significance of the security trust fund in the state government’s commitment to combatting terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that have plagued communities in Kaduna State. He emphasized that the fund will enable the government to provide support to both local and federal security agencies through the provision of equipment and logistical assistance.
Moreover, Governor Sani highlighted the importance of training and retraining security personnel to effectively respond to existing and emerging security threats. He also mentioned the allocation of funds for psychological operations aimed at winning the trust and cooperation of the populace in the fight against insecurity.
Governor Sani called upon corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals to contribute generously to the security trust fund, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility that requires the support and collaboration of all stakeholders. The proactive measures taken by the Kaduna State government signal a strong commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and fostering peace and stability in the state.
