After winning the Adamawa governorship election case in the Supreme Court, Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri is determined to prosecute Hudu Ari, a suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who is accused of irregularities. In a statewide broadcast on Monday, Fintiri announced his commitment to pursuing legal action against those involved in the “illegal declaration” of the 2023 election results.
He praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for maintaining impartiality despite the “irresponsible and unlawful” actions of its former REC. The governor stated that the Supreme Court had condemned the REC’s actions as an act of “irresponsibility and criminality.”
Fintiri assured the public that anyone who connived with the REC to cause the democratically embarrassing moments would face prosecution according to the law. He emphasized that this is the only way to protect the electoral process and democratic culture from undue abuse.
The governor expressed his gratitude to the judiciary for its thorough investigation of the election challenges. He praised the judgement as fair and just, reaffirming his belief in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
