In 1999, His Excellency Diepreye Alamesiegha was elected the governor of Bayelsa state and who proclaimed himself as the Governor General of Ijaw nation.The governor appointed Mr. Abel Ebifemowei as his Transport Officer popularly called T.O. Mr. Abel , though not a cabinet member, but was said to be the most powerful person in that government.
It happened that Goodluck Jonathan, a former lecturer @ the Balyesa State polytechnic, now University of Bayelsa became the deputy governor and as usual was so calm,quiet and humble.
Throughout that regime, the power drunk T.O did not see Goodluck as the No.2 person in that government.Every body feared him in that government and he got a nod from his principal for everything he did.One day, an Unconfirm report said that Mr. Abel slapped Goodluck Jonathan over a water project that brought up a heated argument between them.
Gov Alamesiegha was impeached and Jonathan became Gov. and in 2007, he became the Vice President and later when his principal late Yar’ adua died, he became Nigeria President.Mr. T.O ran to South Africa only to come back after 15 years to deny the report he slapped Jonathan.
In Ondo State, since 2016, Babajide was to Agboola Ajayi and Lucky Ayedatiwa the 2 deputy governors that served his father the same way Mr. T.O was to Jonathan in Bayelsa state.Though Agboola Ajayi would not tolerate some of the excesses of this young man but Gov Lucky Ayedatiwa did.The young man occupied the Deputy governor’s official residence while the deputy governor was staying outside the governor’s Lodge.
The pains Lucky in Yenagoa went through in Bayelsa state was the same thing the Ondo Lucky in Akure went through as deputy governor. What is common here is both the pains and the gains!They were both compensated by the positions of their principals.
The more you fight people like that, more elevation comes.They said Lucky is not a politician the same way they told Jonathan today he is the governor. They said the President didn’t allow Lucky to see him, but those who claimed to have secured the endorsement of Mr. President ahead of the primary have now turned to complainant.
Lucky is not the most brilliant, most intelligent, the richest or a Professor in politics but Grace has located him and it can also happen to you or your child in future.
So yesterday,it was in Bayelsa and today it is in Ondo State, therefore if we fail to learn from history, it is bound to repeat itself.
