The national president of the Congress of All Progressives (APC), Abdullahi Gandujehas mandated state governors and their deputies to maintain cordial relations to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
Mr. Ganduje, the former governor of Kano state, had this to say when he received members of the APC former deputy governors’ forum in Abuja on Monday.
He said that being a lieutenant governor in Nigeria was very demanding due to sycophants trying to create confusion and rift between the governors and their deputies.
He said that while lieutenant governors can be thought of as spare tires, they were always needed in times of trouble in the states.
“If you don’t need the spare tire when you’re normal, you’ll need it when you have problems.
“There is no doubt that the position of lieutenant governor is the most controversial position in the government, not only in Nigeria but in the whole world,” he said.
This, he said, informed his writing of a book: “Deputing and Governance in Nigeria.”
Ganduje said the APC, under his leadership, would consider organizing a national conference to discuss ways to smooth the relationship between governors and their deputies.

“That’s why I decided to write a book, even up to now that problem continues. In fact, if it persists, we are trying to organize a national conference on the relationship between governors and their deputies,” he said.
He said the book focuses not only on the governors and their deputies, but also on the president and vice president, considering what happened between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
He added that he focused on the deputation because in each political office and even in other offices there was always a deputy.
Mr. Ganduje, a former deputy governor of Kano State before becoming two-term governor, thanked the forum for the visit and assured that APC would reach greater heights under his leadership.
Earlier, Chris Akomas, former deputy governor of Abia State, who led the forum, said it was to congratulate Mr. Ganduje on his promotion as APC national chair.
He pledged the loyalty of the forum and said that he would work with the national president in all areas for the betterment of the country and with the APC administration led by President Bola Tinubu in the interest of all Nigerians.
The forum offered special prayers for Mr. Ganduje’s success in office and for God to protect and guide him in the task ahead.
He also prayed for peace, unity and understanding in the country under the APC government headed by Tinubu.
