The Emir of Zazzau has confirmed that four people were killed and seven others injured in a collapsed mosque in Zaria.
The emir, Ahmed Bamalli, said the victims were observing the Asr prayer around 4 pm when the building collapsed on worshipers.
“Yesterday we had observed a crack in the wall of the mosque and were planning to deploy a team of civil engineers to carry out the repairs when this unfortunate incident occurred.”
The emir expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and ordered people to pray outside the mosque while waiting for the mosque to be rebuilt.
The emir ordered that the funeral prayer for all corpses be observed at 8:30 pm at the emir’s palace on Friday.
A resident who was at the site of the mosque collapse, Murtala Kwarbai, told Newslodge that the building collapsed on worshipers.

“I was not inside, but I was near the mosque about to join the congregation when the building fell on the worshipers.
“Some people were injured and about four died.”
“The Juma’at mosque in the emirate of Zazzau is as old as the emirate itself. It is an old mosque where many emirs pray in it. I think the mosque should be rebuilt,” Kwarbai said.
