A Form One student at Gesiaga High School in Nyamira County has allegedly committed suicide under unclear circumstances.
Purity Muge allegedly took poison while at school. She was taken to the nearby dispensary, where first aid was administered before being transferred to Kisii Hospital where she died during treatment. Doctors said a pesticide that Purity ingested caused serious harm to her intestines.
According to the School Principal, the student had shared the incident with classmates, who then informed the deputy principal. Immediately, the school notified her parents who resides a few yards from the school. It later emerged that the deceased had drafted a suicide note. In the note, she explained her difficult relationship with her father. She also cited a doctor recommendation saying she is sterile.
The student’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary for preservation. Teenagers are urged to desist from commiting suicide but rather seek help from parents or counsellors when faced with life challenges.
