A multi-million Naira automated farm located in the Agbobo Umuoga Ossomala community in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State has closed its operations due to the flood disaster.
The disaster caused the death of more than 25,000 birds in the poultry section of the farm and adversely affected fish, potatoes and other crops.
Patrick Sule-Ugboma, the owner of the farm complex, Matuuci Farms Ltd, made the revelation on Wednesday when he took reporters on a tour of the facility.
He said around 400 company staff had been ordered off work.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Ogbaru communities live on the Niger River coast and often experience flooding.
Mr. Sule-Ugboma said the farm, located on 20 hectares of land, had lost a fortune in the flood disaster.
“We have lost more than 25,000 poultry, fish in our ponds worth several million Naira and many other properties worth several million Naira,” he said.
According to Mr. Sule-Ugboma, the flooding also affected some bridges on Onitsha-Ndoni Road, especially the Umunnakwo Bridge.
NAN reports that the collapse of the same Umunnakwo bridge in 2022 resulted in a boat accident that claimed a few lives.
Sule-Ugboma said the collapse of the bridges on Ogbaru-Ndoni Road posed a danger to residents and travelers, who had resorted to crossing the river in wooden boats.
He called on the federal and Anambra state governments to urgently address the situation.

“I call on Governor Charles Soludo to investigate the plight of our people, especially with the flooding hitting the Ogbaru communities again.
“I also ask the Niger Delta Development Commission to consider the reconstruction of the Onitsha-Ndoni highway,” he said.
“Agriculture is the main livelihood of the Ogbaru communities, as well as communities in Delta, Imo and Rivers States,” said Mr. Sule-Ugboma.
