A relative of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has shared concerns over the accident that claimed Wigwe’s life.
Pastor Nduka Nsirim who also works with Arik Air said that when he first heard the news of Wigwe’s death, he could not believe it. He said that he reached out to one of his uncles to confirm if what he heard was true, and the uncle told him that he was equally confused as he was.
During an interview with Sunday Punch, Nsirim said that the first information they got was that Wigwe died in helicopter crash, but that the photo they saw on the internet was a jet. He said that he works in an airport so he knows the difference between helicopter and a jet.
He said, “The first information we got was that (it involved) a helicopter, but the picture we saw on the internet was a jet. At least, I can differentiate between a helicopter and a jet because I work at an airport.
“I told myself that it (the crash) was not true. So, I tried reaching my uncle until I got one of them who said they were still confused the same way I was seeing it.”
Speaking further, he said that they later called their relations who are outside the country, and they confirmed that it was true.
He said that when the news broke out, everybody in the village was crying because they had all benefitted from Wigwe one way or the other.
Wigwe died alongside his wife and son in a chopper crash that happened in the United States.
The tragedy had sparked reactions among Nigerians, and many had called for investigation to be conducted into what led to the crash.
