A fire broke out at the Murtala Muhammed airport in Lagos on Wednesday.
The “smoke incident” started around 7 a.m., the spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, in a statement.
“At approximately 0723 hours this morning, a suspected electrical spark on the ceiling of the baggage hall caused the smoke incident which was reported at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, located in Ikeja, Lagos.

“The source of the smoke was identified as a burning inverter lithium battery facility in the basement.
“Quickly responding to the situation at 0730 hours, dedicated firefighters from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Aerodrome Fire and Rescue Services (ARFFS) and the Authority Electrical Department took immediate action.

“Your quick response and professional efforts have brought the situation under control.”
Staff and passengers had to be evacuated from the airport after the smoke accident.
“In keeping with our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of passengers, staff and all airport users, the Terminal building was quickly evacuated due to smoke that had permeated some areas of the facility,” Abdullahi Yakubu said. -Funtua.
