The Ekiti State government has implemented palliative measures for the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy on the residents of the state.
These measures are on top of the N500 billion earlier announced by President Bola Tinubu to provide relief to Nigerians following the surge in oil prices.
The chairman of the State Palliative Committee and Finance Commissioner, Akin Oyebode, announced the measures on Wednesday.
They include:
“One-year bonus payment for workers of State and Local Governments.
“Payment of a month’s pension in arrears for pensioners of the Public and Local Administrations.
“Implementation of consequential adjustment for workers in GL. 14 to GL. 17 for State and Local Government workers.
“Implementation of 90% CONHESS and 100% Hazard Bonus for health workers in Local Governments.
“Implementation of salary parity for clinical staff of the Hospital Board of Directors.
“Implementation of economic benefits of promotions 2020 and 2021 for workers of State and Local Governments.
“Immediate payment of the arrears of one month of subsidy to tertiary institutions.
“Provision of free shuttle buses for workers and students to facilitate transportation to and from work and school, respectively.”
Oyebode said the governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has also approved the payment of N5,000 as a conditional cash transfer to 10,000 households from August to December 2023, with an emphasis on the elderly.
The palliatives also include the inclusion of 10,000 people in the Ulera Wa Health Insurance program; a food distribution program starting this month; the distribution of inputs to farmers, as well as financial support to small businesses and the informal sector, the commissioner said.
“The fiscal benefits of the difficult decisions made by President Bola Tinubu are already being felt, and these interventions, an urgent and immediate response to the difficulties facing our people, are only possible thanks to the additional income obtained by the three levels of government,” Oyebode said.

“As a government, we feel the pain of our people and we recognize those who insisted on the need for an immediate response from us.
“However, the severity of the situation required extensive consultation with various groups to ensure our response eases people’s pain.”
Ondo State Last week he also rolled out some measures, including free transport for students and workers from August to December 2023 and subsidies for farmers and small businesses.
