The EFCC says it has found an illegal oil refinery in the Ogere area of Ogun State.
The raid took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after the agency gathered intelligence and watched the site for some time.
The EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the premises but found it empty.
The operators seem to have fled after the commission had earlier shut down four illegal lithium processing plants nearby.
Officers still found waste from the refining process and underground tanks that appeared to be used for heating and treating sludge oil.
Two of the tanks held what looks like diesel, also known as Automotive Gas Oil.
Investigators believe the operators bought sludge oil from Warri in Delta State and Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
They then heated it so lighter fuels could be separated out and sold as diesel.
Staff at the site told officers the Chinese operators never gave their names or the name of the company behind the facility.
The EFCC has taken over the site while it works out who runs it, who owns it and how big the operation was.
