According to WebMD, UTIs are bacterial infections that can affect different parts of the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. It is a common infection that can affect both men and women, with women having a higher risk, as around 40% of women will experience a UTI at some point in their lives. While E. coli is the most common bacterial cause of UTIs, other pathogenic bacteria such as Klebsiella or Salmonella can also be involved.
It is essential to take care of the urinary system to prevent contracting an infection. Healthline recommends eating foods that help the urinary system flush out waste and fight off illness. Drinking plenty of water is also important. Therefore, it is crucial to keep hydrating the body to prevent UTIs.
1. UTIs can be effectively treated with uva ursi, also known as bearberry leaf or Arctostaphylos uva ursi. This herb comes from a bush that grows in the woods and has beautiful flowers. The popular name “bearberry” comes from the fact that bears enjoy eating the berries it produce. You can either eat the whole dried leaves or an extract made from them. It is important to note that bearberry leaf is an authoritative treatment for UTIs.
2. Garlic has been used for culinary purposes and traditional forms of treatment for thousands of years. It is widely used in the medical field to treat various conditions caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Garlic contains allicin, a molecule that contains sulfur and is believed to be responsible for the herb’s healing benefits. Eating garlic is one of my favorite remedies for infections.
3. Green tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis shrub. It has been used for many years in traditional medicinal practices due to its pharmacological potential. Green tea is rich in polyphenols, which are known to have powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Epigallocatechin (EGC), an antioxidant found in green tea, has been shown to have antibacterial activity against E. coli strains that cause urinary tract infections (UTIs). Green tea contains polyphenols, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits.
4. If you have a UTI, it may be painful to urinate, but it is crucial to keep drinking water. It is recommended to consume six to eight glasses of water daily, each measuring eight ounces. Drinking more water increases the amount of urine produced, flushing out potentially harmful bacteria living in the urinary tract. Therefore, it is essential to keep drinking water when you have a UTI.
