Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has cautioned church leaders against spreading false teachings and prophecies. The governor delivered this message during the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held at the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Ascension, Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of the State.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the theme “Who is on the Lord’s side; Contending with Apostasy in our Generations” in combating false teachings. He lauded the Anglican Communion for its advocacy for good governance and its support for the less privileged.
Acknowledging the challenges facing the nation, the governor expressed gratitude for the church’s prayers, attributing Nigeria’s unity to divine intervention despite prevailing hardships. He recounted a false prophecy predicting his failure in office and emphasized the power of faith in overcoming obstacles.
Governor Oborevwori urged church leaders to continue praying for the nation, highlighting the critical role of spirituality in governance. He pledged his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the church for inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, The Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, commended Governor Oborevwori for his support to the church and applauded his achievements in office. Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel, The Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, stressed the importance of discerning true faith amidst challenges.
Bishop of Ika Diocese, Rt Rev’d Geoffrey Ekpenisi, thanked the governor and other dignitaries for their support in hosting the Standing Committee meeting, underscoring the significance of collaboration between government and the church for national peace and stability.
