The Bible is the written Word of God and thus the ultimate set of guiding principles governing all areas of life for the people of God. Through these writings, God communicates his will, his laws, his nature, and his saving purpose to humanity.
The Bible is a compilation of 66 books and letters written by more than 40 authors during approximately 1,500 years. The original text of the Bible was communicated in just three languages: Hebrew, koine or common Greek, and Aramaic. The Old Testament was written for the most part in Hebrew, with a small percentage in Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Greek.
The Bible bans a lot of things. Just ask right-wingers when they use it to defend their incessant attempts to discriminate against the LGBT community.
However, the Bible does not stop at sensible suggestions; it also prohibits a long list of activities that form a part of our modern way of life. Indeed many of the people insisting on bans on homosexuality because of the Bible are probably guilty of contravening some of the stranger prohibitions like eating fat (Leviticus 3:17). Many of these prohibitions are contained in the book of Leviticus but banned activities can be found throughout the Bible.
There are some daily activities and actions that are prohibited by the Bible, but many Christians still do them unknowingly or even knowingly.
Here are some of the daily activities that are done by some Christians every day despite the holy book prohibiting them.
1. Tattoos
Leviticus 19:28:
“You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.”
2. Divorce
The Bible is very clear on this one: No divorcing. You can’t do it. Because when you marry someone, according to Mark 10:8, you “are no longer two, but one flesh.” And, Mark 10:9 reads, “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Mark gets even more hardcore about it a few verses later, in Mark 10:11-12, “And He said to them, ‘Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.’”
3 Wearing Gold
1 Timothy 2:9
“Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.”
Ladies, pack up your gold and pearls…because Jesus no like!
4. Eating assorted seafood.
Leviticus 10–11 reads: “And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination.”
5 . Round haircuts.
Leviticus 19:27 reads “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.”
6. Braiding your hair.
Twice in the Bible, braided hair is seemingly spurned. First, Peter instructs, “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewellery, or the clothing you wear” (1 Peter 3:3–4).
7. Owning expensive outfits
Second, the apostle Paul tells his co-missionary Timothy to convey to his church members “that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire” (1 Timothy 2:9).
