Edo State Police arrested a 24-year-old University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) student for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death.
Edo Police Commissioner Muhammed Dankwara told reporters Tuesday in Benin that the suspect’s owner reported the case to police.
The owner, he said, told police that the student stabbed the lady multiple times in the neck and chest with a knife.
“Police officers immediately sprang into action, arresting the suspect, recovering two knives, and taking the victim to the hospital, where his body was deposited in a morgue.
“Items recovered from the suspect were two bloodstained knives, two iPhones, a Nokia phone, a laptop, and two ATM cards.
“The case was transferred to the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department of the State of Benin. The suspect will soon be prosecuted for murder,” Dankwara said.
Speaking to reporters, the suspect said the deceased had traveled from Asaba to spend time with him in Benin when he found some fetish substances in his possession.
He said this led to an argument in which the girl stabbed him and he stabbed her in the back.

In a separate development, Dankwara announced the arrest of a 25-year-old who allegedly defrauded an 18-year-old of 5.2 million naira.
The police commissioner said fake foreign currency denominations and amulets used to hypnotize and manipulate victims were recovered from the suspect.
He said that the suspect had already written a confessional statement to the police and would soon be prosecuted.
Dankwara also paraded a 31-year-old man who allegedly posted nude photos of his ex-girlfriend and another for alleged rape.
Another suspect who paraded before reporters was a member of the Nigerian Forest Safety and Hunters Service who was arrested for alleged murder.
Dankwara said the suspect reportedly shot his victim to death.
