You might not be aware that what you do in the morning can play a huge part in how well you sleep

A sleep doctor has warned that what you do in the morning could be causing your insomnia at night

Experts have shared a crucial tip for improving your sleep cycle.

Dr. Chester Wu, a psychiatrist and sleep medicine specialist, warns against lingering in bed, saying: “I try not to linger in bed because I definitely feel like that causes me to feel more lazy or groggy.” Neuroscientist and sleep expert Chelsie Rohrscheib agrees with this advice.

She said: “I never stay in bed and do activities that aren’t related to sleep and intimacy. This means when I wake up, I get out of bed immediately and go somewhere else in my house,”

Chelsie continued: “This helps to maintain my brain’s association that the bedroom is only a place of rest, which promotes high-quality sleep.”

Instead of staying in bed, doctors recommend getting some sunlight and drinking water after waking up. If you can, try going outside with some water in the mornings and see how you feel after a few weeks.

According to Chelsie: “Light during the day is very important for keeping our circadian rhythm well-regulated. Studies have shown that a lack of sunlight exposure can reduce the quality of your sleep, contribute to insomnia, and negatively impact mood.”

Most people know exercise is a must-do after waking up. Yet, this doesn’t mean you need marathon-level training – simple stretching and heart-friendly activities are enough, reports the Irish Star.

Sleep expert Dr. Chris Winter highlighted how important it is to be active in the morning. He said: “Getting active quickly is a fantastic way to signal to your brain that the day has begun. The exercise does not have to be particularly intense. I start my day off by walking my dogs every day or walking with my wife to work.”

It’s been suggested by doctors that making your bed in the morning can also help wake you up. Meanwhile, they recommend avoiding daytime naps as it could make you less tired when bedtime comes around.
