The election of Francis Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, is being challenged in the Supreme Court. On Monday, the apex court presided over by Justice John Okoro, reserved judgment on the case. All parties involved have already adopted their briefs of argument and the court has adjourned the case to a date that is yet to be communicated.
The appeal is a result of a judgment by the Court of Appeal in Lagos that affirmed Nwifuru’s victory. The verdict had dismissed a petition filed by Chukwuma Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had contested the election results. However, Odii was dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s decision and took his case to the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn Nwifuru’s election.
