President Bola Tinubu has filed a response with the Supreme Court, asking for the dismissal of the appeal filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The appeal challenges the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.
According to Lagos Reporters, Tinubu described the appeal as “abusive in nature” and urged for its dismissal. The president argued that the appellants failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their allegations and submissions at the tribunal.
Tinubu further stated that the tribunal’s verdict was correct in affirming his election and that the appellants had not given any reason for the Supreme Court to disturb the findings of the lower court. He also praised the lower court’s decision, stating that it was rooted in law and a perfect demonstration of scholarship.
The petitioner, Tinubu, has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss Atiku and PDP’s appeal, which consists of 35 grounds alleging the tribunal’s findings to be done with “grave errors and gross misrepresentation”, resulting in a miscarriage of justice. Tinubu has claimed that the appeal lacks merit and is bona fide and is a demonstration of the appellants’ abusive nature towards court processes.
The appellants have requested the Supreme Court to set aside the entire findings and conclusions of the tribunal. It’s important to note that the petition brought by Atiku and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi, was dismissed by the Tribunal on September 6.
