An emergency plenary session is currently being held by the Senate in Abuja. The purpose of this session is to adopt the vote and proceedings of the previous plenary held last Thursday, according to Lagos Reporters. The session commenced at 11:55 a.m. with approximately 54 senators in attendance.

 

President Bola Tinubu had previously requested the confirmation of 10 Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the passage of the 2023 supplementary budget. The Senate’s main goal is to quickly gazette the confirmation of the electoral commissioners to prevent any court interference or objections to the process.
