This development followed a sitting by about twenty-six lawmakers who were loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning.
It is worth noting that on Monday, President Bola Tinubu intervened and brokered a peace deal between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The tension in the state is said to have stemmed from a power struggle between the governor and Wike. As a result of this rift, the House of Assembly split, with 27 lawmakers crossing party lines to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This led to parallel sittings, an impeachment attempt on the governor, and even the demolition of the Assembly complex.
During Monday’s meeting at the Aso Villa, both Wike and Fubara were present. In the presence of President Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, both sides committed to withdrawing all court cases and making other concessions.
It is important to note that the lawmakers had commenced impeachment proceedings on the governor on the 30th of October 2023, less than 24 hours after the house assembly complex was attacked.
