The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a warning to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, regarding his false claims and inciting comments that have the potential to destabilize Akwa Ibom State. The party advised Akpabio to abandon any plans to take control of Akwa Ibom State in 2027, stating that such efforts have already failed.
In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP emphasized that the people of Akwa Ibom State firmly support the party and are united under the immediate past and current administrations. The party accused Akpabio of using propaganda and hate speeches to derail and appropriate the state for selfish interests.
The PDP labeled Akpabio’s claim of taking over Akwa Ibom State in 2027 as empty and arrogant. The party advised Akpabio to focus on his responsibilities as Senate President, addressing the challenges associated with his office, such as alleged process manipulation, budget padding, and diversion of public funds.
The PDP also urged Akpabio to address pending investigations related to allegations of looting funds belonging to Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor and a contract scam in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) during his stint as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
The PDP reminded Senator Akpabio that the office of the Senate President does not grant him immunity from investigation and/or prosecution. They emphasized that time does not run against the State in criminal matters. The party urged Akpabio to concentrate on attending to the plethora of allegations of corruption around him to justify the respect and integrity expected of the occupier of the office of the Senate President.
Finally, the PDP urged the people of Akwa Ibom State to disregard Senator Akpabio’s antics and remain united in their determination to continue building their State under the banner of the PDP.
