Ambassador Desmond Akawor, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has resigned from his position. This comes after his appointment as the Federal Commissioner representing the state at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
In a letter addressed to Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Akawor expressed his gratitude to the party for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading its affairs in the state from 2020 to 2023. He also stated that following consultations with his leaders and family, he has accepted the opportunity to serve the country, which he considers a national service.
Akawor’s letter read, “Consequently, I have resigned my position as the Rivers State Party Chairman of our great party – The PDP, and immediately handed over all duties to the Deputy Party Chairman – Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka who has commenced action in this stead.”
