President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his call for the removal of petrol subsidy, stating that change often brings difficulties. He made these remarks on Monday during the concluding ceremony of the combined convocation of the 37th and 38th academic sessions of the University of Ilorin.
Tinubu acknowledged that the removal of subsidies is causing economic pains to Nigerians. However, he urged them to view the associated pains as temporary and focus on the potential long-term benefits.
According to Tinubu, the removal of subsidies could lead to investments in alternative energy sources, infrastructure, and public services, which would contribute to a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
He also urged Nigerians to unite and support one another during this transition period, saying that by embracing innovation and conserving energy, they could overcome these difficulties and emerge stronger as a nation.
Tinubu commended the University of Ilorin for its many academic accomplishments and contributions to the growth and development of the country. He praised researchers at the institution for their outstanding research and innovation efforts, which have led to several discoveries that have been gazetted for common use.
