Breaking News: Labour Party and ADP emerge winners in Plateau Senate and House of Representatives rerun elections.

Daniel Asama, a member of the Labour Party (LP), has won the House of Representatives rerun election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency. He defeated Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) by a margin of 4,752 votes. Asama secured a total of 66,422 votes, and was officially declared the winner by the Returning Officer, Professor James Garba on Monday morning.

In the Plateau North senatorial rerun election, Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) emerged victorious, defeating Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The results were announced by Professor Nestor Chagok, the Returning Officer, in the early hours of Monday. Dachungyang secured 122,442 votes compared to Safiu’s 53,980 votes.

Christopher Musa Giwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, finished third with 39,132 votes. Gyang Zi of the LP trailed with 33,243 votes.

These rerun elections were held following a Court of Appeal ruling late last year that nullified the victories of PDP candidates Musa Agah (House of Representatives) and Senator Simon Mwadkon (Senate), and mandated rerun elections within 90 days. The PDP was also excluded from the ballot in both contests based on the court’s judgment.
