According to Channels Television, Governor Umara Zulum of Borno State has called on residents to observe a one-day fast on Monday, February 19, 2024, to seek divine intervention over the economic challenges and security issues facing the state.
In a state-wide broadcast on Friday, Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by citizens, particularly the high cost of food items. He appealed to religious leaders, including the Shehu of Borno, the Chief Imam, Imams, and Christian leaders, to join in the voluntary fast.
Governor Zulum assured residents that his government is taking decisive steps to address the challenges. He highlighted efforts to revive agriculture in the state, increase food production, and reduce reliance on food aid. The government is investing in modern farming techniques, supporting local farmers, and incentivizing agricultural innovation.
Acknowledging the rising cost of essential goods, Governor Zulum stated that his administration has engaged extensively with stakeholders in the business of essential commodities. He emphasized the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of high prices on residents.
Additionally, Governor Zulum condemned the cowardly acts of planting mines by miscreants to disrupt the movement of goods and services. He called for collective efforts to tackle insecurity and restore peace in the state.
