The government of New South Wales in Australia has chosen Bola Oyetunji, a Nigerian-born professional, as the next Auditor-General. The announcement was made by Premier Chris Minns and Oyetunji will take office in April, succeeding the current Auditor-General, Margaret Crawford.

According to a statement on the government website, Oyetunji was appointed through a merit-based recruitment process. His previous roles include Group Executive Director – Financial Statements Audit Service Group and Group Head – Systems Assurance and Data Analytics Group at the Australian National Audit Office. He also held several senior roles at the Audit Office of NSW.

Minns welcomed the appointment of Mr Oyetunji, stating that his extensive experience across all levels of government will be highly valued in this important role. He also thanked the outgoing Auditor-General, Margaret Crawford, for her work over the past eight years.

Treasurer Daniel Mookhey also expressed his confidence in Oyetunji’s credentials in auditing, given his roles at the Australian National Audit Office and Audit Office of NSW. He thanked the outgoing Auditor-General for her service and dedication to holding governments accountable for their use of public resources.

In response, Oyetunji expressed his commitment to the integrity and independence required of the role. He acknowledged the great honour of being appointed as the next Auditor-General for NSW and looks forward to serving the NSW Parliament in this capacity.
