An infighting that broke out on Friday between Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters near Marte, Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, has reportedly killed more than 100 terrorists on both sides.
Security sources familiar with the clash between the two Islamist groups said the fighting intensified on Saturday as more fighters were killed on both sides.
Newslodge reliably gathered that fighting broke out between the Boko Haram faction led by Bakoura Buduma and ISWAP for control of the territory around the Lake Chad basin.

The battle continued until Saturday in the areas surrounding Bakuram on the shore of Lake Chad.
Sources told Newslodge that the ISWAP faction was trying to retaliate against the kidnapping of 60 of its fighters and three commanders by Boko Haram.

This newspaper learned that the last battle was the worst confrontation between the two previously aligned groups.
ISWAP in the area is led by one Abou Idris, a former Boko Haram chief of operations, who defected to join ISWAP.
“There were casualties on both sides of the groups, but the ISWAP group had killed more Boko Haram terrorists.
“As we speak now, the battle is still going on with more than 100 of the terrorists killed on both sides,” one of our sources recounted.
However, when contacted, Defense Headquarters spokesman Onyema Nwachuwku did not answer or return our calls. He also did not respond to a text message on his mobile phone asking for comment.
