The acting President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, has announced the passing of the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Hage G. Geingob, who died on Sunday at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment. The cause of death was an undisclosed ailment, which he had been battling for some time. He was aged 82.
The statement issued by the Namibian Presidency said that the President was surrounded by his dear wife Madame Monica Geingos and his children. Despite the medical team’s efforts to save his life, he passed away.
The government has called on the nation to remain calm and await further directives on the matter. They have also urged the people to keep the President’s bereaved family in their thoughts and prayers.
The Namibian nation has lost a distinguished servant of the people, a liberation struggle icon, the chief architect of their constitution and the pillar of the Namibian house. The Cabinet will convene with immediate effect to make the necessary state arrangements. Further announcements will be made in due course. The government has expressed their deepest sorrow and extended their condolences to the family of the late President.
