A day after the Supreme Court resolved the dispute over the 2023 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met at a social function. President Bola Tinubu had been declared the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Despite challenging his victory in court, Atiku lost at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal and the apex court. Following the verdict, Ganduje taunted Atiku, stating that he would wait until 2031 since Tinubu, who had not yet completed a year in office, would serve two terms. However, the two politicians put their political differences aside at the wedding of the daughter of Ambassador Iliya Damagum, acting National Chairman of the PDP, which took place at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday.
Photos that surfaced on the internet showed that the two men, who sat next to each other, shook hands while chieftains of the two leading parties who witnessed the occasion exchanged pleasantries. Atiku will address the press on Monday after the Supreme Court verdict, which the PDP has already criticized.
