According to Al Jazeera, The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for an attack on Israeli soldiers in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday.
According to a statement posted on the group’s Telegram channel, the militants fired an explosive shell into a house in the al-Amal neighbourhood of Khan Younis, where 10 Israeli soldiers were stationed.
The statement said the attack resulted in the killing and wounding of the soldiers, and was part of the “ongoing response” to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The Israeli military has not confirmed the casualties or the details of the incident. It said it was aware of the reports and was looking into them.
The attack came amid a surge of violence in the region, following the death of a Palestinian teenager who was shot by Israeli forces during a protest near the border fence on Friday.
The Al-Quds Brigades vowed to continue its resistance and defend the Palestinian rights and land. It also warned Israel of more “painful strikes” if it did not stop its attacks and siege on Gaza.
