The Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the destruction of public assets at the State House of Assembly complex that occurred yesterday. The party’s spokesperson in the state, Darlington Nwauju, expressed his disapproval of the incident, stating that the attack on the Assembly chamber was a severe violation of the sanctity of the legislature. In a statement, Nwauju asserted that “Last night’s arson attack on the hallowed chambers of the State Assembly amounts to the desecration of the legislature.” Also, the opposition party expressed concerns over the security of the state, cautioning political figures against endangering the fragile peace due to personal political ambitions.
Nwauju emphasized, “We had warned Rivers people of the third term ambition of the immediate past Governor, Mr Nyesom Wike, and the unpatriotic agenda to continue to emasculate the state and keep our people perpetually in poverty with the ‘consolidation of a convoluted economy powered by the mercantile distribution of state resources.”
The APC’s statement not only condemned the act of vandalism but also alleged a “third term agenda” associated with the previous governor, accusing the continuation of policies detrimental to the state’s development and prosperity.
