Adamu Garba, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has claimed that Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is heavily reliant on his current position for his political influence.
Garba stated that Wike’s political capital is solely derived from his ministerial role, and that his influence would significantly dwindle if he were to relinquish it. In a post on his social media platform on Monday, Garba wrote, “As it stands now, the only thing holding Wike’s political capital is the seat of the FCT Minister. If he were to cease being the FCT minister, the loyalty of his current team cannot be guaranteed.”
Garba also emphasized that the PDP has traditionally dominated Rivers State, with established institutions, traditional rulers, and the general populace leaning towards the party. He warned the APC to be cautious about inheriting unnecessary hostility from the people of Rivers State.
“This is a traditional PDP domain. Most of the establishments in Rivers State are for the PDP, the traditional rulers are for the PDP, and the people at the grassroots have been with the PDP,” he wrote.
Garba’s statement follows the recent political crisis in Rivers State, which saw some lawmakers defect to the APC.
