Nigeria Tobi Amusan has successfully secured the revocation of the provisional ban imposed on him by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for missing three whereabouts tests in 12 months.
On July 19, the AIU announced Amusan’s provisional suspension, but the athlete vowed to challenge the decision along with her legal team, as she insisted she was clean and had nothing to hide.
Newslodge reported that Amusan’s case was discussed before the AIU panel on Wednesday. After an exhaustive session, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles was able to prove her case.
The AIU released a statement on Thursday night, which read:
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, determined today that Tobi Amusan has not committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) of three whereabouts failures in a 12-month period.

AIU boss Brett Clothier has indicated that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise his right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within of the applicable term. The decision is currently confidential, but will be published in due course.”
Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect. ”, the statement concluded.
This development means that Amusan has the go-ahead to defend his world title at the World Championships in Athletics scheduled for Budapest, Hungary from August 19-27.
Many had feared the worst after many days of silence from both the AIU and the Amusan camp, but were greatly relieved after the AIU panel’s decision was made public on Thursday.
At last year’s World Championships in Eugene, Oregon Eugene, Amusan surprised fans and opponents alike when he broke the world record in the 100m hurdles semifinals in a time that was the biggest improvement to a world record in the event in 42 years.
