Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the ex-Director of Media for the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and a former Special Adviser to Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State, shared insights on the upcoming governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State during an interview with The Punch
In response to the revelation during the interview that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress declared no automatic ticket for any aspirants in the gubernatorial primary scheduled for April, including the current Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ajanaku noted that Akeredolu faced a similar situation in 2020.
Addressing the assertion that Aiyedatiwa was labeled a “Traitor” during Akeredolu’s tenure, Ajanaku questioned those promoting this narrative, asking if they recalled Akeredolu publicly declaring and endorsing Aiyedatiwa as his successor on the day of their swearing-in. Ajanaku emphasized that Akeredolu expressed gratitude for Aiyedatiwa’s loyalty in the presence of the public and media, challenging the notion of betrayal.
Ajanaku stated that there is no public evidence to suggest that former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu ever altered his opinion about Gov. Lucky Ayedatiwa throughout his lifetime. He contended that the controversy began on the day Akeredolu pronounced Aiyedatiwa as his successor.
He remarked,
“The first question to ask those who are playing this narrative is whether they heard Akeredolu, when he was governor, make a public declaration and pronouncement the day they were sworn in ? In the full glare of the public and the media he thanked Aiyedatiwa for his loyalty, and declared him as his successor. How does this translate to betrayal ?”
