Activist and ally of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, is asking Nigerians to help pay for his 2027 presidential campaign.

Obi is the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress or NDC.

In a video posted online, on Wednesday, Yesufu said Obi cannot carry the cost alone.

She said people who want to rescue the country and take ownership of it cannot leave all the funding to one man.

She urged every Nigerian to give something, even a small amount, so that citizens can fund the election themselves.

She also suggested that donors should have a say in how the money is used.

Looking back at 2023, Yesufu said Obi did not want public fundraising at first.

She eventually convinced him that when people give, they feel more involved and invested in the campaign.

That fundraising drive brought in money from supporters.

The accounts were made public, and the funds were properly accounted for, despite criticism.

She said the old arrangement, where Obi mostly paid for campaign activities, can no longer work.

Every person needs to play a part.

Yesufu made it clear that this drive is separate from the NDC.

The party will release its own account details for members and supporters who want to donate directly to it.

The account shared in the video is for the campaign of Peter Obi.

She also promised transparency.

She said she accounted for every naira in 2023 and will do the same in 2027.
