Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Taoreed Lagbaja has urged Nigerian Army troops to remain steadfast in bringing the nation’s adversaries to their knees and restoring sanity to troubled areas across the country.
Lagbaja made the charge on Wednesday during an assessment visit to Niger State following the troops’ encounter with the insurgents in the general Zungeru area, where some brave troops paid the ultimate price.
The statement from Army Public Relations Director Onyema Nwachukwu said on Wednesday that the COAS arrived in Minna, the capital of Niger state, on Tuesday night.
Brigadier General Mr. Nwachukwu said Mr. Lagbaja immediately moved to Forward Operating Base Erena in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, where I Division Commanding General Officer Bamidele Alabi , a major general, briefed him on the current security situation. .
Addressing the troops, COAS urged them to unite and be more decisive to bring the nation’s adversaries to their knees and restore sanity to troubled areas.
He said that the fight against insurgents and bandits was a just cause in defense of Nigeria and Nigerians.
According to him, protecting lives and defending your nation is the noblest service anyone can offer.

“Therefore, you are in the noble profession of arms and you must not allow your morale to falter. We must defeat our people’s adversaries and reclaim every inch of space where they hibernate on our land,” he said.
Mr. Lagbaja assured the troops of his commitment to them and their families the best in terms of well-being within available resources, adding that well-being was the main pillar of his command philosophy.
He directed the immediate reinforcement of the troops with additional combat facilitators to improve their operational effectiveness.
