The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adelekehas warned land grabbers, locally called “Omo onile”, who extort money from developers and harass their workers on construction sites in the state.
The governor made the warning amid petitions flooding his office over attacks on craftsmen and contractors on construction sites across the state.
The governor’s warning was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, and made available to Newslodge on Tuesday.
Adeleke said her government would no longer tolerate the antics of the ‘Omo Oniles’ forcing landowners to pay illegal fees before developing their land.
“I have received several requests from Osogbo, Ife, Ilesa, Ikirun, Iwo and almost all major cities in Osun State. Recently, I received more than three petitions from Osogbo alone, where the perpetrators allegedly maimed and even killed some site workers,” the governor said.

“I have reports of seizure of work equipment belonging to artisans and even illegal arrests of contractors and construction workers. All this must stop immediately.
“I subsequently ordered security agencies to carry out special operations to hunt down the perpetrators. Our administration will not tolerate blatant lawlessness and wanton disruption of the livelihoods of innocent citizens.
“I also urge the victims of these adverse activities to report the incident to law enforcement agencies so that appropriate action can be taken,” the governor was quoted as saying in the statement.
