In an incident that unfolded in Tongaat, Kwazulu Natal, a wanted suspect found himself in handcuffs thanks to the vigilance and quick thinking of an On-Duty Reaction Officer from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA). This arrest came about during an unrelated call-out, underscoring the unpredictability of law enforcement work.
While en route to respond to a call at a residence in Flamingo Heights in Tongaat, the Reaction Officer spotted a man exhibiting suspicious behavior on a railway line, particularly upon noticing the marked response motorbike. After briefly addressing the initial call-out, the officer retraced his route along the railway line, eventually locating the individual and intercepting him.
Upon searching the suspect, the officer uncovered a replica pistol and a 9mm short live ammunition concealed in the man’s waistband. The firearm had been altered to accommodate a single 9mm round, and the suspect also had medicine from a Traditional Healer attached to his arm. The suspect was promptly arrested for Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Homemade Firearm and was subsequently handed over to the South African Police Services (SAPS).
It later came to light that the arrested individual was a person of interest sought by Law Enforcement in connection with a series of robberies, highlighting the importance of this apprehension.
