A false credit alert claiming that President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, donated N15 million to the late Afrobeats artiste, MohBad’s baby boy, was widely circulated by Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on social media. The fabricated transaction receipt trended on Thursday morning and was reported by many national dailies.
However, doubts were raised about the authenticity of the receipt and the newspapers swiftly deleted their stories. They were again misled when Mr. Olusegun posted the receipt and thanked Mr. Tinubu for the supposed generous gesture.
Mr. Tinubu’s associate, Japhet Omojuwa, clarified that he, along with Mr. Tinubu and his associates, as well as MohBad’s colleagues, were working on a long-term intervention to support the late artiste’s child while avoiding possible political controversy that could arise from the gesture.
Mr. Omojuwa explained that Seyi Tinubu did not donate N15m to Mohbad’s kid or family and that priority should be given to his family, especially his kid. Seyi Tinubu pledged to support the child’s education and immediately help his wife, but they were aware that this could still be used against him politically.
