The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has slammed the federal government for saying that opening up the national food reserves to being out stored grains will help to checkmate the rising cases of hunger among Nigerians.
Joe Ajaero made this statement during an interview with some journalists on Arise Television. During the interview, Joe Ajaero said,
“on the issue of grains, it is laughable to bring grains to Nigerians as a way of checkmating hunger.”
“Serious countries does not do that because are we talking of pigeons or birds that we are going to give grains for sustenance. So, because they are poor, let us give them grains. How many days will they eat the grains? Two or three days? Will provision of grains take over permanent jobs that will create good economy? I do not think that is a good approach to it.”
“It is an insult to Nigerians to have a collective thought that when we are hungry and the situation is too hard, they (the government) will bring few bags of grains. The grains they are bringing will not be enough to feed one state for three days. Why are we talking of grains at this time. Is that the economic policy we want to have? How long are we going to depend on palliative economy?”
