On Friday, Kenyans were treated to sad news after Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah was reportedly involved in a road accident along Kisumu-Busia road.
The vocal senator was heading to his Busia county before the unfortunate accident.
According to the Senator, the trailer which had lost control in the Ojola area rammed into his vehicle and threw him off the road.
“The vehicle hit mine as I tried to swerve. The trailer landed in a ditch. It was going to be a bad accident but I was lucky. By the time it reached my vehicle, it was moving aside. I had a driver,” he stated.
However, it was the model of his car that seemed to have elicited sharp reactions from netizens. From the pictures taken, the vocal senator was onboard a Nissan Wingroad model before the accident.
Nissan Wing Road is considered one of the cheapest cars in Kenya and has low resale value according to market prices. Among those who commented on the model include Abraham Mutai who praised Okiya for being a simple and modest senator in Azimio. He took time to throw jabs at Senator Edwin Sifuna.
“It’s the car for me. My guy isn’t cruising in the latest Prados that your holier-than-thou Edwin Sifuna is using. If there is a genuine opposition figure, between Edwin Sifuna and Okiya Omtatah then it’s Omtatah. Sifuna is in business, pretending to be fighting for the weak,” stated Mutai.
Human Rights activist Boniface Mwangi also weighed in on the car. He, however, criticized Omkiya’s use of a cheap car, saying persons of his stature always go for bigger cars for safety and dependability.
According to Mwangi, cheap cars can prove costly at times when one is involved in a nasty road accident.
Why is Busia Senator Okiyah Omtatah driving such a useless car? Why a NISSAN WINGROAD WAGON of all the cars? A person of his class should be driving an Armoured Land Cruiser V8 with 4 elite security officers guarding him. Kenyans are happy he is fine and did not sustain injuries.
