South Africa lost to Nigeria in the first semi-final of the competition after a 1.1 draw that forced extra time. After the extra time, South Africa lost through the penalty shootout with Nwabali becoming the hero of his nation. Ronwen Williams failed to save even one penalty despite saving four penalties from Cape Verde. It seems the Nigerians had trained hard for the encounter.
On the other hand, Ivory Coast secured a spot in the final after eliminating DR Congo 1.0, a goal scored by Sebastian Haller in the second half. Haller has been struggling with an injury but did well to score for his national team.
South Africa will pocket a whopping 2.5 million US dollars.
That is a huge amount of money especially if converted to their national shillings .It is a huge achievement for a team that went into the tournament as underdogs. DR Congo will also take home the same amount of money.
