Jimi Solanke, a veteran actor, playwright, and folk singer, passed away on Monday at the age of 81. He was fondly known as “Uncle Jimi”. According to reports, he had been battling health issues since December and breathed his last while being rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan from his country home in Ipara Remo, Ogun State.
Hon Dickson Awolaja, the lawmaker representing Remo North State Constituency at the state Assembly, confirmed the news. He expressed his condolences and stated that Solanke’s death is a big loss to Remo North and Ogun State as a whole, considering his valuable contributions to the development of the country.
Solanke was famous for his roles in Kongi’s Harvest, Sango, Shadow Parties, and many more. May his soul rest in peace.
