In line with the report from CNN, lawmakers are offering diverse reactions to the recent U.S. strikes in Iraq and Syria, conducted in response to a drone attack in Jordan that claimed the lives of three American soldiers.
Sources on Capitol Hill revealed that the Biden administration provided prior notification to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other top leaders before executing the airstrikes, as reported by CNN.
However, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson, a Republican, expressed criticism of the military response.
In a statement, Johnson asserted,
“The administration waited for a week and telegraphed to the world, including to Iran, the nature of our response.
The public handwringing and excessive signaling undercuts our ability to put a decisive end to the barrage of attacks endured over the past few months.”
Contrary to Johnson’s sentiments, Senate Armed Services Chairman Jack Reed, a Democrat, commended President Biden’s response.
In a statement, Reed stated,
“This was a strong, proportional response. In fact, the 85 targets struck tonight mark a greater number than the prior administration.”
Furthermore, Republican Senator Joni Ernst from Iowa expressed her approval with a succinct “Finally” and took to Twitter, now X, to add,
“Iran needs to know the price for American lives.”
