A Federal High Court in Abuja has cancelled the nomination of Major General Nuhu Angbazo (retired) as the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Nasarawa State.

Justice Mohammed Umar ruled that the primary that produced Angbazo was inconclusive because it left out voters from Karu Local Government Area.

He ordered the ADC to hold a fresh primary in Karu within 14 days of the judgment.

The judge also barred Angbazo from presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

He stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising him as the ADC’s candidate.

The case was brought by former Minister of Environment Mohammed Abdullahi, who ran in the ADC governorship primary alongside Angbazo and Senator Mohammed Onawo, who represents Nasarawa South.

Abdullahi’s lawyer, Professor Mubarak Adekilekun, called the ruling a victory for the party.

He said the decision means the ADC must hold a fresh primary in the affected local government.
