Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Sector 3 under Operation HADIN KAI have killed several suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighters in a mortar attack on a terrorist camp in Dumba, Borno State.
Three of the dead are said to be foreign fighters.
The report comes from counterterrorism analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation and a photo of the militants’ position before the strike.
Security sources told him the attack took place on November 1, 2026, and was carried out by a fire team from the Army’s Lake Chad Basin operations and the 403 Amphibious Brigade.
According to the sources, the militants had moved north, out of range of the troops’ 60mm mortars.
The soldiers then repositioned to a better firing spot. At about 5 p.m., after careful reconnaissance, they spotted the fighters at a new location in Dumba, including some foreign fighters.
The troops opened fire with 60mm mortars and hit the target. Human intelligence sources later said several casualties were carried away from the scene in wheelbarrows.
Further intelligence indicated that three foreign fighters were among those killed.
The sources said battle damage assessment and follow up operations are underway to determine the full impact of the strikes and keep up pressure on the group.
