The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 polls, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State on his recent victory in court. The Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sat in Jos, the state capital, upheld the governor’s election on Friday. This was previously reported by Lagosreporters.
On Friday, a tribunal headed by Justice R Irele-Ifineh announced its verdict, dismissing the petition made by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and their candidate for governor, Nentawe Yilwatda.
The judge ruled that the concerns raised by the petitioner regarding party structure were related to pre-election matters, and therefore the petitioners had no authority to challenge it.
According to the tribunal, the PDP’s congress on September 25th, 2021 was valid and in line with the order of Justice S.P.Gang of the Jos High Court. The tribunal also noted that candidate nomination and sponsorship fall under pre-election matters. Atiku, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), responded to the news on Thursday and praised the governor’s dedication to the people. The former Vice President believes that the court victory will lead to a successful and productive tenure.
