According to sources in the judiciary, the Enugu governorship election petition tribunal is expected to announce its decision at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. The tribunal is currently handling 46 petitions, including eight from the gubernatorial elections and 38 from the state assembly elections.
One of the main issues that has garnered attention is the validity of Peter Mbah’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, which was presented as evidence of his eligibility to hold political office. The opposing Labour Party has alleged that Mr. Mbah did not complete his mandatory youth service before assuming his position in 2003.
In addition, there are questions surrounding the validity of the votes obtained during the electoral process, as well as allegations of electoral malpractice and rigging in Owo and Ugbawka, which have cast doubt on the outcome of the election.
