The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the failure of Nigeria’s public transport plan has summoned Finance Minister Wale Edun over the failure of the plan.
Others summoned include: the Minister of Commerce and Investments, the General Accountant of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation.
Victor Ogene, chairman of the committee, issued the summons in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said that the committee decided to invite ministers and others to provide him with the necessary information on previous mass transit schemes in terms of disbursement.
He said that the committee has not yet received the required document, and said that as a result, the agencies were invited to appear before the committee on September 11 and 12 at 11 am.
“In addition, the secretary of this committee will invite the general director of the Infrastructure Bank to appear on the same day and time.”
The President also called on the National Association of Road Transport Owners and Road Transport Employers of Nigeria to appear before her.
He warned those concerned not to treat the invitation lightly, adding that failure to attend would incur the ire of lawmakers, thereby invoking their legislative power.
“Let me warn you that this invitation is not frivolous, it is an invitation extended to you by the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“And if for any reason any of them do not honor this invitation, we will invoke the full power of this committee enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended,” he said.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the Abuja Investment Company Limited and the National Union of Road Transport Workers had previously appeared before the committee.
Both made suggestions on how to stop the recurring failure of the plan.
